Living with Ghosts

By

Grief does not end when the tears stop.
It lingers, quiet and invisible, in the corners of your life. Some call it memory, others call it longing — but to me, it often feels like living with ghosts.

They are not the kind you see in shadows or hear in whispers.
They are the kind that appear in the everyday:
In the chair you no longer sit in.
In the songs that still carry your voice.
In the places that feel hollow because you are not there anymore.

I tried to banish them.
I thought if I ignored the ghosts, they would fade. But the truth is, you cannot outrun what lives inside you. Memories are not doors you can lock. They seep through walls, through silence, through time itself.

So I have learned to live with them.

Sometimes, the ghosts are cruel.
They remind me of what I lost, of what I will never have again. They steal the air from the room, press heavy against my chest, and leave me aching for what cannot return.

But sometimes, the ghosts are kind.
They remind me of love, of warmth, of moments so beautiful they still echo years later. They remind me that I once had something worth grieving, something so strong it left imprints on my soul.

Living with ghosts means living with contradictions.
They are pain and comfort. Absence and presence. Loss and love intertwined.

And maybe that’s what healing really is — not erasing the ghosts, but making peace with them. Letting them walk beside you, not ahead of you. Allowing them to exist, but refusing to let them own you.

I will always live with ghosts. But they no longer haunt me — they remind me. They remind me that love leaves echoes, and echoes are proof that something beautiful was once here.
