The Courage to Open Again

By

After heartbreak, the heart builds walls.
Not because it wants to, but because it’s tired of breaking. Every promise that was broken, every tear that fell, every goodbye that burned — they all become bricks stacked higher and higher, keeping the world out.

For a long time, I thought those walls kept me safe.
Safe from disappointment.
Safe from betrayal.
Safe from the pain of losing again.
But walls don’t just keep the hurt away — they also keep love away.

Healing is not only about surviving the loss.
It is about finding the courage to open again. To risk again. To believe, against all odds, that love is still worth it.

Opening your heart after it’s been shattered feels like standing at the edge of a cliff. You don’t know if you’ll fly or fall. But here’s the truth: you cannot soar if you never take the leap.

I won’t pretend it’s easy.
The scars don’t disappear. The fear doesn’t vanish. But courage is not the absence of fear — it is the choice to move forward despite it.

So little by little, I let the walls crack.
I let kindness in. I let laughter in. I let possibility in.
And each time, I learn that my heart, though scarred, is still alive. Still beating. Still capable of love.

Because love is not just about the one who broke you.
It’s about the ones who will come after, the ones who will help you see that your heart was never broken beyond repair.

And maybe that’s the greatest courage of all:
Not to stay closed forever, but to open again.
