The Empty Space

By

There is a silence in my life now.
Not the peaceful kind, but the heavy silence that follows after someone leaves. It sits beside me in the mornings, it walks with me through the day, it crawls into my bed at night.

Everywhere I go, there is an empty space shaped like you.
In the chair you used to sit in.
In the songs you used to hum.
In the words I still start to say out loud before I remember you’re not here to hear them.

People tell me time will fill the emptiness.
But how do you fill a space carved out by love?
How do you replace the presence of someone who became a part of you?

The truth is… you don’t.
You learn to live around it.
You learn to carry the silence, to sit with it, to let it remind you that what you lost was real.

And maybe that’s the cruel gift of love:
That when it’s gone, it still lives on in the spaces it leaves behind.
